Innovation
In 2025, we continued advancing the transfer of research outputs through three strategic pillars: Train, building skills and capacity; Grow, fostering project development and industrial partnerships; and Impact, accelerating technology
transfer and real-world
application.
Train
We delivered three innovation awareness talks tailored to different audiences: ISGlobal administrative staff, high school students awarded the Premi Extraordinari de Batxillerat, and students of the Master in Technology and Global Affairs at IE University. We also began developing new innovation capsules building on the first 12 that have proven highly valuable for our researchers.
Grow
Our portfolio now includes 42 active innovation lines, including five initiated in 2025: an AI-based diagnostic tool for malaria and other infectious diseases, a software to personalize exercise and manage fatigue in breast cancer patients, a software to facilitate transcriptomic analysis , a vulvar cancer stratification tool, and a dengue risk stratification tool. We currently have 36 active patent applications (15 of them granted), with one new patent application filed in 2025 for lateral flow tests that use DNA sequences to detect biomarkers. We also hold 13 registered software programs, including four registered in 2025 (Friends in Nature, HTG Analyzer, Science Peaks and FORECAST-AIR), and two trademarks registered this year. During the year, eight innovation proposals secured funding, and the institute maintained 13 active industrial partnerships.
Impact
ISGlobal currently has two active spin-offs, Made of Genes (MoG) and Innovex Therapeutics, with a third, Global Health Innovative Solutions (GHIS) to be formalised in April 2026. The capitalisation of the MoG spin-off was formalised through a license-for-equity.
